As LIFE SUPPORT opens, Ana Wallace [Queen Latifah] is attending her regular HIV support group for women. Getting ready for work the next day, she kisses her good-humored-despite-his- HIV-status husband Slick [Wendell Pierce], who chides her for not eating before taking her medication. After their good morning kiss she leaves with her signature wheelie cart full of condoms and literature. Meanwhile, as Lucille [Anna Devere Smith] leaves for work, Amare [Evan Ross], a gay HIV-positive teenager, watches to make sure she doesn’t catch him sneaking into her house to see Kelly [Rachel Nicks], his childhood best friend and her granddaughter. Kicked out of his sister’s apartment, Amare needs a place to stay. Kelly reluctantly agrees until he can stay with his boyfriend Michael [Darrin Dewitt Henson].
