   Carolyn Strauss is president, HBO Entertainment, for Home Box Office, responsible for overseeing the development and production of series, specials and late-night fare. In addition, she has creative oversight for HBO Independent Productions, the company unit that develops and produces multi-camera comedies for HBO as well as other networks. She was named to this position in February 2004, promoted from executive vice president, Original Programming, a title she held since 2002.

  Strauss has supervised the development and production of numerous popular series at HBO. These include “The Sopranos,” “Sex and the City,” “Six Feet Under,” “Big Love,” “Rome,” “Tell Me Your Love Me,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Flight of the Conchords,” “The Wire,” “Oz,” “Rome,” “Entourage,” “The Comeback,” “Carnivale,” “Mind of the Married Man,” “The Larry Sanders Show,” “Arli$$,” “Tracey Takes On,” and in late night “Real Time with Bill Maher,” “Da Ali G Show,” “The Chris Rock Show,” “Def Comedy Jam,” Def Poetry” and “Mr. Show,” as well as dozens of comedy specials featuring such names as Chris Rock, Rosie O’Donnell, David Spade, Damon Wayans, John Leguizamo, Sandra Bernhard and Janeane Garofalo.

  Strauss joined HBO’s New York office in 1986 as assistant, Original Programming and was promoted to manager in 1989. The following year she relocated to Los Angeles as director of Original Programming. She was appointed to vice president, Original Programming, in 1994 and was named senior vice president, Original Programming, in 1999.

  Strauss holds a BA degree from Harvard University.
